Fighting For Fans in the New Jersey State Legislature
Right now, the fight is on for fans living in New Jersey. The State Legislature is considering The New Jersey Ticket Consumer Choice Act (S376 & A3194), a bill that protects fans from anti-consumer practices in the market for event tickets.
Once passed, The New Jersey Ticket Consumer Choice Act will guarantee fans the choice to purchase a freely transferable ticket when buying from the primary vendor. Freely transferable tickets protect fans from restrictive ticket policies that make it difficult for to resell tickets if they can't attend an event or even give tickets away as a gift or donation. More and more, ticket issuers and primary ticket platforms are using anticompetitive and anti-consumer tactics to limit competition and increase prices. New Jersey residents deserve protection from these tactics that obstruct consumer-friendly experiences when it comes to purchasing tickets.
The New Jersey Ticket Consumer Choice Act is not anti-venue. It will not prevent venues from limiting the number of tickets that can be sold to an event; enforcing policies related to age restrictions, conduct, or behavior; or selling promotional or discounted to tickets to groups, such as nonprofit organizations or churches. This bill simply provides fans with commonsense protections to ensure a free, pro-consumer market.
