LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — John Fey was rummaging through a box of old scrapbooks this summer when he came upon a couple lost treasures.
Putting Fans First
When it comes to buying tickets, fans should have easy, unrestricted access to the live events they love. Year after year, millions of fans go to concerts, sporting events and artistic productions — experiencing the best entertainment the world has to offer and creating memories that last a lifetime. Unfortunately, more restrictions, fewer options and ambiguous sales polices can make buying tickets a frustrating process. Fans deserve better. That’s why Fan Freedom works with music, sports and art lovers across the country to fight for policies that make the ticket-buying process safe, transparent and fan friendly. We advocate for legislation that empowers fans and calls for a secure and competitive marketplace to buy and sell tickets. We’re fighting for you.
That’s the ticket: Move from paper to digital divides fans
While some fans prefer the convenience of digital ticketing, this technology comes with its own slate of issues. Everyone who purchases a ticket completes the transaction with a unique set of circumstances. In order to accommodate all consumers, fans should have the option of purchasing either a digital or paper ticket.
Issues Worth Fighting For
Safe & Transparent Ticket Marketplace
Buying tickets can be a frustrating process. In many instances, the way tickets are sold today is purposefully opaque and can be very confusing to the average fan. Bringing transparency to the ticket-buying experience can better inform fans, temper frustrations and give buyers the information they need to make educated purchasing decisions.
Consumer Choice & Competition
We believe that when a fan buys a ticket, they own it. Fans should have the choice to use, transfer or even resell that ticket as they see fit. Yet, more and more often, fans are seeing restrictions placed on the tickets they buy from the original ticket seller. These restrictions can limit a fan’s ability to use, transfer or resell that ticket however they want.
About Fan Freedom
The Fan Freedom Project works with music, sports and art lovers across the country to combat emerging abusive ticket practices. Nontransferable ticketing uses discriminatory, anticompetitive and deceptive practices that make it harder for fans to buy, resell and use event tickets in a free market. Deceitful “White Label” websites create the impression of legitimate venue sites to sell event tickets above market prices and sometimes mislead fans into purchasing “speculative tickets” that do not exist at the time of sale. Live Nation Entertainment, Ticketmaster’s parent company, holds a virtual monopoly of the live event industry and utilizes a massive lobbying machine to push for anti-consumer legislation in both the federal and state governments, all in the name of maximizing profit. Fan freedom mobilizes people on the ground to fight for pro-consumer legislation and defend against efforts to control fans.
It’s our mission to provide fans the freedom they need to enjoy entertainment without fear of being caught in deceitful or anti-consumer traps.
HAPPENING NOW IN NEW JERSEY
The New Jersey Ticket Consumer Choice Act would add important protections for New Jersey consumers and promote free market principles. It would ensure ticket buyers always have the choice to buy a freely transferable ticket; prohibit ticket issuers from penalizing ticket buyers who choose to transfer, resell, give away, or donate their tickets; and would remove antiquated restrictions on the online resale of tickets.
